Preparing for a tele-neuropsychological evaluation
To ensure accurate results, please arrive to your appointment well-rested, well-hydrated, and having eaten a nutritious breakfast. Avoid any intoxicating substances beforehand (e.g., alcohol, cannabis, or sedating medications) unless previously discussed with your provider. Take your prescribed medications as usual. If you take psychostimulants, please speak with your neuropsychologist prior to testing.
Technology Requirements
A computer with a working camera and microphone is essential. Tablets may be used only if they can remain propped up and stationary and there is access to a keyboard or mouse. Phones may not be used.
A strong, stable internet connection is required—ideally at least 10 Mbps upload and download. To test your speed, search “internet speed test” and run one before your appointment.
Test your equipment in advance to ensure your camera, microphone, and internet connection are functioning. Make sure your device is fully charged and your charger is nearby.
Setting Up Your Environment
Choose a private, quiet space free from interruptions. This can be your home or a private room in a library or office.
Minimize distractions. Children, pets, and other household members should be out of the room or under supervision elsewhere.
Silence all notifications, alarms, and smart speakers. Background noise such as conversations, knocking, or crying can interfere with testing.
What to Expect
Log in 5–10 minutes early to address any last-minute technical issues. Follow the link or instructions sent to you in advance.
Short breaks are allowed as needed. Let your provider know if you’re tired or need to stretch or get water.
Be honest and do your best—there are no right or wrong answers. Your effort helps us understand how you're functioning day-to-day.
Do not schedule other tasks on the same day. Testing can be mentally fatiguing, and it’s best to rest afterward.
If Testing Is Interrupted
Unexpected interruptions can happen—lawnmowers, loud neighbors, road work, or echoey buildings. Minor disruptions rarely affect the validity of testing, and we’ll do our best to adapt in the moment.
